What goes on your burger? What’s in the tossed salad? Are you a “plain” person or do you like to spice it up?

I'm a vegetarian -- so I just eat "veggie-burgers".... What I put on by burger varies with my moods and depends on the type burger I'm starting out with (some are more vegetable-tasting, others taste more like real hamburger, etc). Given that, sometimes, I go "all the way" with mustard, pickles, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, mustard. Sometimes, it's just alfalfa sprouts (and) on a Honey Wheat English Muffin. I almost always put my burger on an English Muffin of some type. :)

I love caramelized onions and swiss cheese along with the usual condiments. I recently learned to tear up a slice of white bread, soak it in milk, squeeze the milk out a bit and mix the bread in with your seasonings and ground beef for burgers. It makes a very moist burger!

I always mix Lipton Onion Soup Dry Mix, garlic powder, worcestershire sauce, and hickory smoke sauce in the ground beef. Form into patties and cook on the grill. Taste great!

I have become fussy about my burgers that I cook at home. I make sure that I have American cheese on hand for them but I prefer to have either Swiss cheese or cheddar on mine. I love putting different types of mustard on my burgers too: sweet hot, dijon, or spicy. Using thousand island dressing or barbeque sauce makes them yummy too!

There is a family owned restaurant in the town where I was born and raised. It has been around for it seems like forever. There is a small bar and several booths for eating in and they also have a drive-thru window. In the 50's, the kids started putting their gum on the brick wall where the drive thru windows are and for some reason the idea "stuck" because 50 plus years later, you will still find gum on the walls. Only now it is all the way around the building. The have dubbed it the "Gum Wall" and even sell T-shirts!It is close to the high school so they get a lot of business from the students. It is also so popular that it's always busy and if, by chance, you wander in there the day after Christmas, you will wait in line forever! It is packed with people who have "Come home" for the holidays and they gets bags of these things to take with them on their journey back. I have personally created "addicts" when I worked out of town by taking samples into work. What are these things?, you might ask. They are called Maid-Rites and at one time that was all you could get there. It is a loose meat hamburger steamed in beer and sugar. There was also only one way you could get them made. The treditional Maid-Rite was, and still is, served with pickle, mustard and onion. Don't even bother asking for ketchup as you will not find any there. They do not serve fries, but you can get a bag of chips. Some years ago, they started serving them with cheese and called them "Cheese Rites". They have also added a few other types of sandwiches. But people from all over this country will make a special trip just to put their bubblegum on the brick wall and get a traditional Maid-Rite. Mmmmm Mmmmm!

Jimmy Buffet says it best "I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57, and french friend potatoes, a big kosher picker pickle and a cold draft beer". I also add onion, ketchup and of course cheese! Green olives or mushrooms can also add a nice flavor if I am trying to mix things up a bit.

Just a burger and cheese, the best thing in the world. That way you can actually taste the meat.
By Nicole on 9/24/2009
I love the standard burger, but a fantastic condiment is a mix of barbecue sauce & Hidden Valley Ranch. Also, a sprinkle of feta cheese, tomatoes, chopped black olives & Italian dressing is wonderful.

I love the regular burgers with everything on them. But I also like to play with them. Pineapple and BBQ sauce. Red bell pepper, ranch, blue cheese, zucchini. Pesto, parmesan, bacon, onion, and a veggie on hand. Velveeta/Chz Whiz (melted), red bell pepper, broccoli. They are endless! Next I'm going to start playing with what goes in them! Oooh, it's best with toasted buns!!! And Salmon burgers awesome too!
