Bonding with Your Son

Share ways you have found to build a strong relationship and understanding with your son. What special things do you do together?

Last Post: My boys are now 22 and 19.  I was able to have a great relationship with them by letting them know if someone made a comment and they did not understand it, to ask me what it was.  Many times during shows when they were in middle school they would ask me what something meant. I would tell them and not act embarrassed about it.  Many nights when I would be in bed reading, one of them would ask if he could read with me.  we would both start out reading and then my son would shut off the light and start talking about life, i.e, sex drugs, issues at school.  topics that they did not want to see my facial expression.  I learned to breathe deep before answering, but now my kids will talk about these things in the day light.  I love my boys and the fact that they do not find any subject off limits because of these "in the dark" conversations.

Last Post: Well today is my 24anv, and I love him more now then I did when I met him. I  just love being with him and he respcts me. I work and he is diable but he makes sure that dinner is cooking when I come home and he ask me about my day and gives me a kiss and a hug each day.

Last Post: The best way to mend a broke nail is with liquid bandage this will allow the nail to grow out before having to remove it.   liquid bandage also works well on those soft brittle nails. Try coating them with liquid bandage before applying your regular nail polish.

    I like to make nachos over the gril, I use tinfoil and add the tortilla chips then mashed up black beans and small tomatos and seasonings, add that on top of the chips, then add cheese fold the tin foil over the top, check for the cheese to be melted and then when I take them off, I like to add sour cream!  Delish! :)        leahmariehiggs@aol.com

Tips that Won’t Break the Bank

Last Post: Do as much work as you can yourself.  My husband and I have a 1920s bungalow which we bought in 1995. It was a fixer-upper. Luckily we were young and handy. And the work that we did have done by a professinal we made sure we got a good deal and got a company that was honest and did quality work. Spend time doing your homework, checking out companies.   And the lowest price is NOT always the best company to hire.  Then neighobors could not believe the difference in how our house looked.  It went from probably one of the worst looking houses to one of the best. It took a lot of "elbow grease" but we know most of it we did with our own hands, and are proud of it.  When you do projects on your own you also know it was done the right way, and the way you want it done!Just a little paint, change of window treatments, and a new pillow  (or some little accesory) can make a room look a lot different and fresh!

Last Post: I had a wonderful birthday yesterday. I baked bread all day, then my husband and I went to our daughter's and let her cook dinner for us. It was great.

Last Post: I use egg whites for a pore refining mask about once a week. Just apply the egg white to clean skin, let dry, then rinse. And it costs less than a dime!!

Last Post: Been watching ATWT for a very long time-(when I wasn't working as a L&D nurse) they have some GREAT writing going on now...and some terrible things too (Brad dying- Lily's character is like a limp dish rag) ....my daughtets will come home from school and say "what is going on with Jack/Katie/etc. now?" in the middle of the show...hhmmm, that is NOT a good thing! ;-)

Last Post: My sons school has a bank day every two weeks where a local bank comes to the school and the children can make a deposit and record it in their deposit book. He earns his money by doing weekly chores and getting 100's on his spelling test. He was so inspired to make more money that we have started recycling soda cans and turning them in for extra cash. We even continue to do it during the summer months at the bank itself. At the end of the school year he gets to withdraw the amount he needs for whatever his goal was. (Last year it was a D.S.!)
